BSPB started guarding of the most threatened nests of the globally endangered Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca). Two nests of Imperial Eagles, located in Protected Areas "Sakar" and "Kamenski Bair" are already protected. The guarding is designed to protect eagles mainly from anxiety and other attacks.
As of March 18th three pairs of Imperial Eagles have already laid their eggs and incubate them. The exact number of breeding grounds will be clarified in the next weeks.
Guarding of the most threatened nest of Imperial Eagles is carried out within the project LIFE+ "Save the Raptors", implemented by the BSPB with the co-financing of the European Union.
Guarding is conducted throughout the whole breeding season - from March to the end of July, when the juvenile eagles fly from the nest. Due to the nest guarding, the breeding success of this globally threatened species can be increased by 20 to 30 percent.
