An extinct species is about to be recovered. Look for the first juvenile Lesser Kestrels in the skies above Sakar! Our babies have already started flying around!
To our great joy, last week we witnessed the first flight of the juvenile birds. Shy at first, they attacked the stones in the yard, being at the same time afraid of beetles and grasshoppers - their natural food and prey. Luckily, all the birds that have left the box stay in the area. Every day, the birds grow stronger and gain courage. Today, a team of Green Balkans found 10 of the chicks at a distance of about 2 km from the hacking facility. Moreover, with joint efforts, the juvenile falcons chased away a Common Buzzard, which passed close to their "possessions".
We wish them fair winds and success! They have all summer to learn how to hunt insects and small rodents before the long journey to the south. We will wait for them in Sakar!
You can adopt one of these chicks for a month or for the entire period they will spend with us - six months.
Donating BGN 40, you can cover the chick’s monthly subsistence costs.
And then ... then it remains in the hands of fate and hope that "your" Lesser Kestrel chick will overwinter in Africa and will come back home!
You will receive a diploma, and by the color ring you will know that this is exactly the chick you adopted.
Adoptive parent or not, you are welcome to visit us to see the sweetest creatures and learn more about them!
Note: If you bring a jar full of grasshoppers or beetles, the Lesser Kestrel will never forget you!
